Daily reading: Luke 6:1-16
Sunday January 29, 2017

Focus passage: Then he said to them, “The Human One is Lord of the Sabbath.” Luke 6:5

Within the Hebrew Scriptures we find a call for Sabbath rest when God is crafting the newly freed slaves from Egypt, out in the wilderness on their journey to the land of Promise.  It is here that God says: unlike Pharaoh, that worked you seven days a week, I will give you a day of rest.

On this day everyone in your household, your family your servants and your animals will rest and take time to worship the God who gives you absolutely everything, even the rest you are enjoying.

How do you practice Sabbath rest? Or do you?  What shape would it take if you don’t?

Prayer:  God of Sabbath rest, help me to find time to faithfully rest and trust that you can provide for me.  Amen.
