Don't be Afraid

Daily reading: Luke 5:1-15

Focus passage: Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid.  From now on, you will be fishing for people.” Luke 5:10b

Jesus responds with the words “don’t be afraid.” “ Simon,” he says, “you don’t have to be afraid any more.”  We need to hear this message.  We need to hear God say “don’t be afraid.”

As a congregation transitioning into becoming missional, we are called to go out where we haven’t gone before, we are invited to cast our nets into the deep water and see what will happen.

What we will find is that God is already casting a vision for us that is bigger than we are. It is forcing us to go out into the community to fulfill God’s call.   When so much of the talk among congregations and the Area and Region is about what we don’t have and how we can sustain what we do on less, this is an important scripture to hear.
God sends us out and rather than coming home empty handed, we return full of grace and abundance.

Prayer:  Abundant God, help me to trust in your guidance so that I can be filled with your Holy Spirit.  Amen.
