Forgiveness is a spiritual release

Daily reading: Luke 11:2-4
Thursday September 8, 2016

Focus passage: Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who has wronged us.  And don’t lead us into temptation.  Luke 11:4

Forgiveness frees us to love the world as God does.  It creates room for grace, mercy and love in community.  The words to forgive and to release are interchangeable in this biblical context.  Forgiveness is a moment of spiritual release.
Forgiveness means that we don’t give up on one another. We practice forgiveness because we embrace the forgiveness that God has given to us.  God forgives us even when we don’t believe we deserve it because God is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and ready to relent from punishing.

Prayer: God, help me to practice forgiveness today, help me to forgive myself and others.  Lead me down a good path today and help me to make good choices that honor you.  Amen.
