Focus passage: They saw Joseph in the distance before he got close to them, and they plotted to kill him. Genesis 37:18

What we find in these foundational stories in the book of Genesis is that our God takes one of the most basic units of relationship, a family, and chooses to work through it.  We get is this up close and personal view into one family through the stories in Genesis, reminding us how up close and personal our relationships with our own families are.  The family God works through is nowhere close to ideal.  Assumptions are turned on their heads, people scheme, manipulate and trick and at the end of the day the hero rarely are all that heroic.  Yet God is still is faithful.

Prayer: Faithful God, thank you for your sure and constant presence in my life.  Help me to turn to you when I struggle with my relationships.  Amen.
