Reaching our Neighbors

Daily reading: Acts 1:1-14
Wednesday April 6, 2016

Focus passage: “Rather, you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”  Acts 1:8

As a community of believers, the disciples were off on an adventure that would be full of moments of asking “what now?”

We ask the same question.  No longer is there a cookie cutter model for how we can do ministry.  Rather, there are as many ways to reach our neighbors and to be in a community that is focused on the love of God than we could ever imagine.  What works for a congregation across town might not work for our congregation.  And that is because the Spirit intercedes in our lives, utilizing the unique gifts we have to meet the unique needs we find in our lives.

Yes, we can plan and prepare, yes we should gather and worship and pray in community so that we can be sent out into the world to be the hands and feet of Jesus.  But we should also be prepared for the unexpected and rely upon the Spirit to help us forward.

Prayer: God of the resurrected Christ, breathe new life into the dead spaces of my world.  Amen.
