An Invitation

Daily reading: Acts 1:1-14
Monday April 4, 2016

Focus passage: As a result, those who had gathered together asked Jesus, “Lord, are you going to restore the kingdom to Israel now?”  Acts 1:6

The disciples spoke to the risen Lord, once again not really understanding the gospel message.  They asked “Lord is this the time when you will restore the Kingdom?”, in other words, “what now?”
They were wondering if David’s kingdom will be restored.  Once again looking back, hoping for something concrete from the past, but instead they were given a promise of something new in the future.   They were given the itinerary for this amazing journey Jesus had envisioned for them.

There is an invitation that they will be the witness of Jesus, exponentially expanding the scope and audience to receive and hear the good news.   Like Jesus, who received the gift of the Holy Spirit when baptized before he began his public ministry, so too will the disciples receive the gift of the Holy Spirit before going out to do ministry.
Where might God be calling you to do ministry?

Prayer: God of the resurrected Christ, breathe new life into the dead spaces of my world.  Amen.
