Daily reading: Mark 12:28-44
Wednesday March 9, 2016
Focus passage: As he was teaching, he said, “Watch out for the legal experts. They like to walk around in long robes. They want to be greeted with honor in the markets. They long for places of honor in the synagogues and at banquets. They are the ones who cheat widows out of their homes, and to show off they say long prayers. They will be judged most harshly. Mark 12:38-40
Jesus warns the people not to be like the legal experts that cheat the widows out of their homes. Their neglect of the most vulnerable in society is reflected in the widow’s offering. If they were taking care of her she would not only have two small copper coins to give and they wouldn’t be all she had.
Who are the most vulnerable in your society? How can you help care of them?
Prayer: God help me to see what is hidden and hear what I have ignored, may it open my heart more the needs all around me and in effect help mold my heart into one of a servants. Amen.
