Measure

Daily reading: Mark 13:1-8, 24-37

Focus passage: Jesus responded, “Do you see these enormous buildings?  Not even one stone will be left upon another.  All will be demolished.” Mark 13:2

I can’t tell you how many people when asking me about our congregation wonder how many people attend our church.  And it’s no slight on them.  I wonder the same thing when I am talking to colleagues.  We are somewhat obsessed with knowing how many people come, there even seems to be among clergy this sort of pecking order where those serving larger congregations are somehow better ministers than those who are serving smaller congregations.

But ministry should not be measured by the world’s standards.  Because when Jesus teaches us about God’s Kingdom it always reveals that God’s standards are not our standards.

How do you measure faithfulness?  Can you chart forgiveness or mercy?  You can’t compare the depths of love from one person to another.

Prayer:  God in the uncertainty of tomorrow, help me to be alert today of your presence, instill within me faithfulness.  Amen.
