Listen and Look

Daily reading: Mark 12:28-44

Focus passage: One poor widow came forward and put in two small copper coins worth a penny. Jesus called his disciples to him and said, "I assure you that this poor widow has put in more in the treasury.  All of them are giving out of their spare change.  But she from her hopeless poverty has given everything she had, even what she needed to live on." Mark 12:42

The church is one of the only places in our society where 6 generations come together on a weekly basis to do something together.  It is one of the only places where we can engage the wonder of the child and the wisdom of our elders.

It is one of the only places where the voice of the child is valued:  Where the wisdom of the elders can help to guide us forward.

It is one of the only places where we value everyone’s contribution regardless of age, or ability to financially contribute.

My hope is that we find challenge and expectant excitement in the dream of a community where all are heard and all are seen.  Where everyone’s contribution is welcomed and valued, where we can hear each person’s needs and respond, because that is a glimpse of the kingdom.

Prayer:  God help me to see what is hidden and hear what I have ignored, may it open my heart more the needs all around me and in effect help mold my heart into one of a servants.  Amen.
