Moving forward

Daily reading: Mark 10:17-31
Saturday February 20, 2016

Focus passage: Jesus looked at them carefully and said, “It’s impossible with human beings, but not with God,  All things are possible for God.” Mark 10:27

Did you notice that Jesus doesn’t send the man away empty handed? He offers the prescription for healing and invites him to come and follow him after he has done what he needs to do to remedy what is lacking in his life.

Even though he is dismayed there is opportunity for transformation.
There is a participatory nature to the kingdom Jesus has announced.  It begins now, with us learning how to love one another and love God deeply.

It begins with us being open enough to hear God name the idols we have created that keep us from fully embracing the love God offers to us and that keep us from fully embracing our neighbors.

Those idols that we cling to so desperately while all the while wondering why we feel something is missing, Jesus demands that we give them up, smash them, throw them away for our own sake and for the sake of our community.

How can we possibly do it we ask?

And Jesus answers it’s impossible for us, but not with God.   All things are possible with God.

Prayer:  God help me to let go of the situations and possessions that keep me from fully embracing and loving you and my neighbor.  Amen.
