Listening to God

Daily reading: Mark 8:27-9:13
Saturday February 13, 2016

Focus passage: Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice spoke from the cloud, “This is my Son, whom I dearly love.  Listen to him!”  Mark 9:7

Leaving behind the familiar even if it creates instability and anxiety can be hard to do, because at least life is predictable, when we don’t move forward.  And there is nothing predictable about the story of the Transfiguration.  It invites us into the mysterious nature of God that is meant simply to be experienced.

One thing is for sure, Jesus wants to amaze the three disciples he has brought along with him.   Rather than build, the disciples are called to listen.  Sometimes the appropriate response for what God is doing in the world is not to something, but it is to stand in grateful wonder and allow God to be God.

Rather than try and make sense out of the situation and try and figure out the plan ahead, maybe there isn’t a plan.  Maybe it is a moment simply for God to let you know that you are loved.

Prayer:  Gracious God help me to experience the presence of Christ in this moment and in every moment today.  Open my eyes and my ears to what is happening around me.  Amen.
