Two Kingdoms

Daily reading: Matthew 2:1-12
Sunday January 3, 2016

Focus passage: After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in the territory of Judea during the rule of King Herod, magi came from the east to Jerusalem. Matthew 2:1

Matthew begins his gospel by setting up the reality that there are two kings and kingdoms:  One of violence and one of peace.   His gospel highlights the contrast between those that grasp the gospel message with those that don’t.  And what we find is that those on the margins of society often receive or understand the message before those on the inside do.

Prayer: God of epiphanies and a-ha moments, open my eyes to your presence today.  Amen.
