passage: “Silence!” Jesus said, speaking
harshly to the demon. “Come out of
him!” The unclean spirit shook him and
screamed, then it came out. Mark 1:25-26
In
this passage of scripture we begin to see what it means for Jesus to be the
Christ. Jesus is immediately on the
scene seeking out illness and immediately healing people.
Jesus
is about healing the brokenness of the community which is manifest in themes of
un-cleanliness, possession, and chaos.
Jesus is able to come on the scene and restore order, remove that which
is unclean, and drive away that which possesses or consumes us: Which
ultimately breaks down the barrier that separates individuals from fully
participating in community.
We
all have something in our life that creates barriers that hinder us from fully
participating in community and/or we participate in a way to keep others
out. The lesson for today tells us that
Jesus comes in and breaks down those barriers with his words. There exists then brokenness in our own lives
as well as a brokenness in our community.
What
word does your community need to hear that would bring about healing and
restoration?
Prayer:
Help me to mend what is broken in the world.
Amen.
