Baptism

Daily reading: Mark 1:1-20
Monday January 11, 2o16

Focus passage: While he was coming up out of the water, Jesus saw heaven spilling open and the Spirit, like a dove, coming down on him. Mark 1:10

In the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) baptism is understood as an outward sign of an inward grace.  As I speak to the youth in our church ready to take the plunge into the water, it is our way of sharing our choice with the world that in all things we choose to follow Christ.  In the waters we let go of our self centered ways and emerge clothed in Christ.

Baptism is the beginning of a life of faithfulness, of in turn taking up our own cross and following our Savior.  Take time today to remember your baptism, think of what it means to follow in the footsteps of Christ.

If you have yet to take the plunge are interested in making this lifelong commitment feel free to talk to me, or if you don’t live in El Paso speak to a faith leader in your community.

Prayer: God help me to realize your presence in my life.  May I respond by setting myself on the path to follow you.  Amen.
