Out in the wilderness

Daily reading: Mark 1:1-8
Saturday October 12, 2015

Focus passage: John was in the wilderness calling for people to be baptized to show that they were changing their hearts and lives and wanted God to forgive their sins. Mark 1:4

John calls us out to the wilderness because if we stay in the city, in the comfort of our homes and are unwilling to step out into the unknown wilderness then we may not be prepared to embrace and participate in what God has in store for us.  Until we are willing to step away from it all, then we are not ready to rely fully on God and to be open to a new perspective.

So the challenge for us is to take time away from the ordinary parts of our day, so that we can gain some perspective, to see what we do that is either helping or hindering the presence of God in our lives.  John invites us to look at what needs to be changed or shifted in our lives so that we can help remove the obstacles that keep us from seeing or experiencing the presence of God in our lives.

Prayer: God who calls us away from our daily routines, who desires us to follow you on unknown paths, open me to your presence today.  Amen.
