Love Came Down

Daily reading: Luke 1:5-13, 57-80
Monday December 21, 2015

Life during the time frame of the gospel writer Luke was hard, messy, dark and full of the same questions that we find ourselves saying in the face of the violent acts that we have read about in the latest news updates.

We wonder if there is a place of safety and who can we trust, much like the budding Christian community would have wondered.
And so into the chaos, Luke grounds the telling of the Good News of God’s activity in our world with a story of promise.  He tells about Zechariah.  It begins with these words “during the rule of King Herod of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah.  His wife Elizabeth was a descendant of Aaron.”

God does come into the chaos of our lives and brings us hope.  This is the message of Advent, God will come and dwell among us!

Prayer: Come Lord Jesus, be born anew in my life today.  Amen.
