Hope Invites

Daily reading: 2 Kings 22:1-10, 23:1-3
Wednesday December 2, 2015

Focus passage: the king sent a message, and all of Judah’s and Jerusalem’s elders gathered before him.  Then the king went up to the LORD’s temple, together with all the people of Judah and all the citizens of Jerusalem, the priests and the prophets, and all the people, young and old alike.  There the king read out loud all the words of the covenant scroll that had been found in the LORD’s temple.  2 Kings 23:1-2

Josiah does something extraordinary.  He sends a message and gathers all of the people in the temple, the priests and prophets, and all the people, young and old alike and there he read out loud all the words of the covenant scroll that had been found in the temple.

Scholars believe he found a scroll with Deuteronomy 5 on it, beginning in verse 6 we read, “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.  You much have no other gods before me.  Do not make an idol for yourself…”

Josiah invites the people into a time of repentance and turning their lives toward God.  It is a time of renewal of the covenant with God.

Prayer:  God of all beginnings and fresh starts bring your hope into our lives today.  Amen.
