Prodigal Son

Background passage: Hosea 11:1-9
Daily reading: Luke 15:11-32
Thursday November 19, 2015

Focus passage: Soon afterward, the younger son gathered everything together and took a trip to a land far away.   There, he wasted his wealth through extravagant living. Luke 15:13

Have you ever wanted to run away?

So many people have tenuous relationships with their families.  It is what makes for good plot lines in comedies especially with those that are based on holiday time.

We may even be able to relate to the younger son, who just wanted to get out of town.

But what we see is that in leaving his family, he also leaves all that he has been taught.  His concern is not to be integrated in the community; it is solely on fulfilling his own desires.

Just like the parent waiting at home, hoping their child will come back and change their life, God waits for us, hopefully expectant of our return home.

Prayer: God help me to place you more fully in the center of my life.  Help me to be filled with your deep abiding steadfast love and care.  Amen.
