Generous living

Daily reading: 2 Corinthians 9:11
August 8, 2015

Focus scripture: You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous in every way.  Such generosity produces thanksgiving to God through us. 2 Corinthians 9:11

Generosity is a spiritual practice that ultimately helps us grow closer to God.  We proclaim to

worship a God who is extravagantly generous, God has given us everything that is around us.

We give because God has made us to be generous, to live within community with each other, sharing and making sure that everyone has their daily bread.  Giving ultimately is a spiritual practice of proclaiming that we trust that God will provide for us.

Practicing extravagant generosity allows us to put God first, trusting that we are fulfilling God’s call in our lives.  It helps us to set our priorities and to practice yet one more spiritual discipline that helps us become more like Christ.

The best things in life are not earned.  Life lived in Christ is not earned, grace is not earned, the love God gives to us is not earned.  When we can be grateful for the things in life that are grounded in relationship our focus in life will shift.  Being generous moves us from basing our lives on what we can posses to building relationship.  It calls us to boldly step out and help someone else out.
Practice generosity today and take time to be grateful for all that God has blessed you with.

Prayer:  God thank you for all that I have, help me to see what I have as a gift given, to be used to bless others with.  Amen.
