Dealing with Anger
Daily reading: Ephesians 4:25-5:2
August 14, 2015
Focus scripture: Be angry without sinning. Don’t let the sun set on your anger. Ephesians 4:26
Have you heard the phrase “don’t let the sun set on your anger”?
It was advice given to me and my husband during or premarital counseling.
It has been the bedrock of our 18 year marriage. We take time to talk about what is bothering us (hopefully in a compassionate, caring way).
As followers of Christ we are called to talk to one another when we are angry, yes angry.
Don’t let the sun set on your anger because then you might just allow it to build and build until you are so angry with one another that you cannot even remember how it all started.
Like with the Hatfields and the McCoys or the Montagues and Capulets does anyone really know how their feuds began?
Prayer: O God who calls to each of us to follow, we pray for the unity of your Church. Forgive our pride, arrogance, lack of faithfulness, narrowness of mind and bitterness. Help us to set aside that which distracts us from fully following you as together we meditate on your holy word. May it convict and transform us. Amen.
