A Man Had Two Sons

Daily reading: Luke 15:11-32
August 16, 2015

Focus scripture: When he had used up his resources, a severe food shortage arose in that country and he began to be in need.  Luke 15:14

There are numerous themes that emerge in this passage.  Today I am struck by the individual nature of this part of the story.  The younger son has taken his inheritance and spent it away in a distant land.  He did not invest the money wisely, or use a portion of it to help his greater community, or those who at the time were in need.  No he used it, in a way wasting it, which is why we often call this passage "The Prodigal Son".  Prodigal means wasteful.

Take time to think about ways that you can be helpful to others.
What are your strengths?

Ask God to show you ways today that you can reach out to those in need.

Prayer:  God thank you for all that I have, (name all you can think of that you have) show me ways to be generous with what I have with others.  Amen.
