The fruit of the Spirit is love

Daily reading: Galatians 5:22-24
July 7, 2015

Focus scriptures: He answered: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Luke 10:27)

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails. (1 Cor. 13:4-8)

For the next nine days we are going to explore the Fruit of the Spirit.  Paul begins with love.

Love is central to our understanding of God.  It is the foundation for everything we do.  Love of God and love of self that is then reflected in our love of neighbor.

God’s unconditional love challenges to exhibit that same kind of love toward ourselves and others.  That love is grounded in forgiveness and mercy.

Prayer:  God help me to love as you do, without qualifications or conditions.  Amen.
