Daily reading: Genesis 12:1-2

Day 2 of Hike

Focus scripture: The LORD said to Abram, “Leave your land, your family, and your father’s household for the land that I will show you.” Genesis 12:1
This is one of the foundational stories in the bible.  It grounds us in a narrative piece that will be repeated over and over again.  God’s people are a people on the move.  There are countless stories of journeying.

Abram and Sarai are not the first; we remember Adam and Eve leaving the Garden of Eden.  Now Abram is called to go on a spiritual and physical journey with God.
Our faith is not a stagnant faith.  We never fully arrive.  We are always called to move forward.

As I walk today I will meditate on the concept of leaving.  What is it that we as the church need to leave behind to move forward?  What is it that I need to leave behind in order to move forward spiritually?

If you have time to take a walk today, as you walk meditate on the word “leave.”
If you can’t walk far, do it with slow intentional steps inside your house.  “Leave.”

Take time to journal your insights and write a prayer.

Prayer:  Guide me God today as I leave behind yesterday and enter into the present day.  Amen.
