Serving Others

Daily reading: Acts 6:1-7
June 2, 2015

Focus scripture: About that time, while the number of disciples continued to increased, a complaint arose.  Greek-speaking disciples accused the Aramaic-speaking disciples because their widows were being overlooked in the daily food service.  Acts 6:1

What needs are in your community?

Are you currently helping to meet those needs?

In this passage the faithful followers are told that certain widows in their community are being overlooked.  Rather than the current leadership take on more responsibility, they sought others that were not serving to step up and help.

Healthy communities depend upon the Holy Spirit to guide them, so that one person does not carry more than they should.  It is in reaching out to others that we experience the presence of Christ.  When we do more than our share of the work, we are not allowing others to answer Christ's call in their own lives.

Prayer:  Open my eyes to the needs in my community and show me the way to meet them in community.  Amen.
