Reaching Out

Daily reading: Acts 8:26-40
June 7, 2015

Focus scripture: Running up to the carriage, Philip heard the man reading the prophet Isaiah.  He asked, “Do you really understand what you are reading?” Acts 8:30

Our bibles are full of deep insight into living a holy life, but there is a lot of background and context that is necessary to unpack for us to be able to benefit from its richness.

Philip understands this and so does the Ethiopian official.
In order to fully embrace the gospel message, we have to be in community with a wide variety of voices and questions.  We need people from all walks of life to help push against our commonly held assumptions so that we can once again hear the radical call of God in our lives.

When we read alongside others our compassion and understanding deepens.

When we read alongside others we can hear and know how God is involved in the lives of others.

Take some time today to be in worship and study with other believers.

Prayer:  God help me gain a deeper understanding of your Holy Word through study with others that are very different from me.  Amen.
