Waiting on God 4

This week I am exploring passages of scripture that deal with the topic of waiting on God.  The early disciples waited from the day of Jesus’ ascension into heaven for God’s Spirit and direction to come to them on the day of Pentecost.

Daily reading: Colossians 1:9-14
May 21, 2015

Focus scripture: We’re praying this so that you can live lives that are worthy of the Lord and pleasing to him in every way: by producing fruit in every good work and growing in knowledge of God; by being strengthened through his glorious might so that you endure everything and have patience; and by giving thanks with joy to the Father. Colossians 1:10-11

The passage today begins with prayer, prayer for communities of faith to be filled with God’s knowledge.  We are not only to pray to receive God’s direction and guidance and to have patience as we wait for ourselves, but also for those in our community of faith.  We are to pray that our lives are worthy of the call that God has placed in each of us.

Take time today to pray for the members of your faith community, if possible by name.

Prayer:  God I desire to be led by you today, help me to see how I can follow.  I pray for the members of my faith community by name … may they be open to your guidance and leadership in their own lives. Amen.
