A Change of Heart

Daily reading: Acts 2:38-41
May 25, 2015

Focus scripture: Peter replied, “Change your hearts and lives.  Each of you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.  Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38
“Change your hearts” Peter preaches to us.
Peter finally gets it!  Throughout his following of Jesus he had such difficulty reconciling what he felt in his heart with how he understood the world to work.  We all join in that struggle when we turn our hearts toward God.  We are called with the Spirits prompting to believe and to be willing to wrestle with that belief.
In our baptism we take on the identity of Christ and live a life of accepting and offering forgiveness so that our hearts can change.  In Micah 6:8 we read about what God requires of us, “to do justice, embrace faithfulness, and walk humbly with your God.”
When we aren’t sure of the way forward the Holy Spirit comes to our aid.
Prayer: Come Holy Spirit come, change my heart toward God today.  Amen.
