Daily reading: Matthew 18:1-4
April 25, 2015

Then he called a little child over to sit among the disciples, and said, “I assure you that if you don’t turn your lives around and become like this little child, you will definitely not enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:2-3

Children are eager to learn, to explore new ideas, are incredibly imaginative and at times can be bundles of energy!  They also need (depending on their age) a great deal of supervision and correction.

Jesus is teaching us that we are to depend upon God like a child depends upon his/her parent.  We are to seek spiritual nourishment from our Creator God just as children expect dinner to be served at home.  We know that the spiritual nourishment that God provides for us won’t be like junk food or fast food void of necessary vitamins and nutrients necessary for growing strong.  No God gives us exactly what we need to develop on our spiritual walk.

We never reach a point when we don’t need to receive God’s nourishment just as we wake each morning with activities to do and a hungry belly demanding to be filled.

Prayer:  God I come to you like a child, knowing that I cannot live independent of your guidance and help.  Feed me today through my prayer time and through my interactions with others in my faith community.  Amen.
