God is everywhere

Scripture: John 2:13-22
March 8, 2015

"Don't make my Father's house a place of business!" John 2:16

Unlike the other gospel writers, John places this story at the beginning of his gospel.  Matthew, Mark and Luke place it at the end of theirs and it then functions as a catalyst for Jesus’ arrest and crucifixion.

John instead places at the beginning and there are other noteworthy differences in his telling of this moment in the temple.  John has Jesus critiquing the whole temple system that necessitated the exchange of currency from Imperial to local and for the purchase of animals for sacrifice.

In this moment with cord and word Jesus says “God isn’t confined to the temple.”
And with those words we have been forever changed and continue to be challenged.  Where to do you find God in your day?

While we believe that God is present in our worship service on Sunday morning, is that the only place that you experience God’s presence in your week?

Just as Jesus forced the merchants out of the temple, we are pushed out into the world to find God.  Believe that God is already ahead of us all, blazing a trail for us to follow.

Prayer:  God help me to experience your presence in all areas of my life throughout my entire day.  Amen.
