The Wilderness

Scripture: Mark 1:9-13
February 22, 2015

At once the Spirit forced Jesus out into the wilderness.  Mark 1:12

The same Spirit that descended upon Jesus in the form of a dove now drives Jesus out into the wilderness.

Wilderness is that spiritual in-between-time.  It happens after we have made a decision to change and before we have completely lived into the change.

It is the time between letting go and embracing something new.

Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days.  The Hebrews were in the wilderness for 40 years.   It takes a baby 40 weeks to form in its mother’s womb.  (And it takes the parents of that baby 40 weeks to prepare for this major change in their family dynamic.)  Our Lenten season is 40 days (minus the Sundays)

As impatient as we are, change takes time.

Embrace this season as a way to live into a significant change that God is calling you to.  Or take time to be in discernment about a change that you feel that needs to take place.

Prayer:  Give me the grace to allow myself the time I need to adjust to the changes that I need to make in my life.  Amen.
