A New Song!

Sing a New Song! by Pastor Leslie

Scripture: Psalm 149:1-6,9

Praise the LORD Sing to the LORD a new song; sing God’s praise. Psalm 149:1

At the beginning of a New Year we have the opportunity to set goals for ourselves.  Often the resolutions I make come from a desire to change something about myself.

I usually make spiritual resolutions and like those faithful new gym goers by February the drive to continue with my new practice often fades and I begin to slack.

It is so hard to create effective change in our lives.

Some changes are thrown on us, like with the birth of a child.  You are forced into that change, of late night feedings and editing the shows you watch in front of young eyes, bed time, etc.

But there are the changes we make at the beginning of the New Year that we have great intention to follow through on and most of what we resolve to do fades away within 30 days.

The Psalmist encourages us to “sing a new song.”

I see this as a new spiritual practice.  Don’t sing a song from the 90s, or something that hit the charts last year, no sing a new song:  Because God is always making us new.  We just have to be willing to enact the change God desires to make in our lives.

Prayer: God you are ever molding us into a new creation that began on the day we claimed Christ as our own.  May we be open to your transformative work in our lives.  Amen.
