What If?

What If?  By Jamye Ward
Scripture: 2 Peter 3:11-18
“Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish; and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation.” 2 Peter 3: 14-15a

The author of 2 Peter writes of destruction of the world—opposite of peace—and of those waiting. Those waiting are told they ought to be “leading lives of holiness and godliness.” But for what are they waiting? The readers of 2 Peter are to live holy and godly lives as they await the renewal and transformation of our world.  “Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish; and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation.”
What if every Christian on earth took these words to heart this Advent season and set upon a course of holiness and godliness as we wait for renewal and transformation? What if all of us were to strive to be “without spot or blemish” as we wait? Wouldn’t we then have such love and compassion for this earth and its inhabitants entire that we would be found at peace. We would be at peace with our world and with ourselves—we would feel and know God’s presence and peace.
Prayer: O God of renewal and transformation, may we find the peace you know and we seek. Amen.
